Molqi, 14 September 2012 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Molqi sub-zone said that the inhabitants are engaged in soil and water conservation campaign in collaboration with EDF members.
Mr. Woldeyesus Tekie, head of the branch office, indicated that the popular undertaking was organized with a view to boosting agricultural production on the basis of soil and water conservation. Accordingly, the inhabitants of the Administrative areas of Tikul, Endaba-Simon, Ait’abr, Adi-Kuakuat, Adi-Mhret, Dembe-Tierer and Derabush have constructed water catchment walls in a total of 100 hectares.
Among the inhabitants, Mr. Ogbamariam Taezaz, Mr. Tesfagiorgis Tekle, Mr. Yemane Tesfaselasie and Ms. Senait Mehari voiced conviction that the undertaking has become a remedy in preventing erosion in the area considerably susceptible to the phenomenon, and that such exposure has raised community awareness to that end. They also commended the Agriculture Ministry’s active role in the process.
Among the EDF members, Mekonen Tsegai equally expressed conviction that the role of such joint venture is vital in environmental conservation.
