Nation witnessing sustainable agricultural development: Minister

Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture, said that the nation is in a position to sustainably transform the agriculture sector from the scope of subsistence to surplus thanks to the policy that made it Number One priority of the development domains.

Asmara, 15 September 2012 – Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture, said that the nation is in a position to sustainably transform the agriculture sector from the scope of subsistence to surplus thanks to the policy that made it Number One priority of the development domains. He made the statement at the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP) Sensitization Workshop which was jointly organized from 13 to 14 September by the MOA and COMESA.

The workshop underscored that member states are expected to register a minimum of 6% growth in the agriculture sector, and that they need to allot 10% of their GNI in the sector so as to achieve such growth.
