Micro-dams and grasslands in Gash-Barka region in good state: Report

The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region indicated that the 121 micro-dams there have impounded ample amount of water and grasslands are at their best in line with the commendable rain showers registered during the rainy season. Barentu, 22 September 2012 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region indicated that the 121 micro-dams there have impounded ample amount of water and grasslands are at their best in line with the commendable rain showers registered during the rainy season.

Mr. Misgina Gilai, head of agronomy and livestock development in the branch office, said that animal feed could be secured for the coming year in line with the establishment of more grass enclosures and implementation of popular soil and water conservation undertakings.

Mr. Luther Musa, Administrator of Kerkasha Administrative area, and Mr. Demat Shingula on their part pointed out that the micro-dam in the locality has secured an amount of water that would meet the annual demand for humans and animals.

Mr. Idris Asini from the Area Administration of Sosona equally voiced satisfaction with the enrichment of water resources and flourishing of greenery in enclosures in the wake of the significant amount of rainfall registered in the area.

Mr. Misgina called on farmers to effectively store animal feed and put up further endeavors in livestock farming.
