Halhal, 3 October 2012 – The sub-zonal Administration of Halhal indicated that research was conducted focusing on ways and means of expanding wood enclosures in the locality, and that the potential sites have already been identified.
Mr. Girmatsion Abraha, Administrator of the sub-zone, said that wood enclosures in areas like Sanqa and Mai-Awalid are in good state, and that afforestation, as well as soil and water conservation campaigns conducted in the locality involving the inhabitants and EDF members have borne fruitful outcome. He further explained that sizeable volume of grass has been collected from such enclosures, thus fostering supply of animal feed.
The Administration also said that it would strictly apply punitive measures against acts of deforestation.
Among the inhabitants, Mr. Hussein Mentai and Abduselam Asenai called for collaboration between the sub-zonal administrations of Halhal and Hamelmalo in this regard as the wood enclosures in the respective localities are put in place in the common border. Moreover, they called on fellow inhabitants to reinforce efforts towards ensuring sustainability of the venture’s impact.
