Haikota sub-zone: Livestock farmers express satisfaction with micro-dam facilities

Livestock farmers in Haikota sub-zone expressed satisfaction with the micro-dams in the locality. They further indicated that the micro-dams have ensured adequate water supply for livestock, besides enriching the surrounding grasslands.

Haikota, 5 October 2012 – Livestock farmers in Haikota sub-zone expressed satisfaction with the micro-dams in the locality. They further indicated that the micro-dams have ensured adequate water supply for livestock, besides enriching the surrounding grasslands.

Among the farmers and herdsmen, Idris Mohammed, Humed Ibrahim and Mohammed Ali Adem said that they used to wander up to Tekeze River in search of grass and water, and that they are presently in a position to save time and energy in line with the improvement of the grazing land in their locality.

Mr. Firezgi Habtom from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone disclosed that the micro-dams in Girasha, Libaniyai, Hashenkit and Biltubyai have impounded adequate amount of water thanks to the commendable rain shower in the area. He also pointed out that grasses have flourished well in 23 hectares of grazing area.
