Pointing out that the popular undertaking focused on the construction of water catchment walls and terracing, Mr. Giorgis Mezgebe, head of economic development in Afabet sub-zone, explained that undertakings regarding a similar venture on the part of the inhabitants last year have made positive impact, and that active participation is being witnessed in the current campaign.
Reports indicate that around 4 Km. of water catchment wall types have been constructed through such undertaking, besides the renovation of 700 meters-long water catchment along Ein River by Red Sea Construction Company.
Meanwhile, the Farmers Association in Wadilabka extended over 1,300,000 Nakfa for the renovation of water catchments in the area. Accordingly, a 590-long water catchment with a capacity of irrigating more than 5,500 hectares has been renovated, among others.
Among the inhabitants of Afabet semi-urban center, Mr. Ibrahim Osman, Ms. Sitel Mohammed and Ms. Halima Yasin said that previous achievements in this regard had vital role in reinforcing the public initiative.
