Haikota Sub-zone: Crops in good state

Farmers in Haikota Sub-zone said that crops are in good state in line with the commendable rainfall in the locality. Among the farmers, Mr. Ibrahim Shelal, Mr. Hamd Lijaj and Mr. Woldemichael Woldegiorgis explained that they are in a position to anticipate surplus harvest on the basis of hard work and taking advantage of water diversion canals.

Haikota, 8 October 2012 – Farmers in Haikota Sub-zone said that crops are in good state in line with the commendable rainfall in the locality. Among the farmers, Mr. Ibrahim Shelal, Mr. Hamd Lijaj and Mr. Woldemichael Woldegiorgis explained that they are in a position to anticipate surplus harvest on the basis of hard work and taking advantage of water diversion canals.

Mr. Yonas Yosef, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch office, indicated that 12,250 hectares have been put under cultivation with various crops, and that 75% of them have reached the harvesting stage. He also called on the farmers to strengthen follow-up endeavors against pest swarm until the harvest process is finalized.
