Youths in the port city of Massawa expressed readiness to back up endeavors towards ensuring pollution-free coastal line. They made the pledge in connection with a successful campaign they conducted in Green Island as regards environmental hygiene, during which they noted the significance of crystal-clear seashore in reinforcing the tourism industry. Massawa, 8 October 2012 – Youths in the port city of Massawa expressed readiness to back up endeavors towards ensuring pollution-free coastal line. They made the pledge in connection with a successful campaign they conducted in Green Island as regards environmental hygiene, during which they noted the significance of crystal-clear seashore in reinforcing the tourism industry.
Among the youths, Kedija Osman, Amanuel Adhanom, Winta Yebio and Idris Mohammed explained that they took the initiative to do away with possibilities of pollution along the island which is visited by tourists. They also said that the exposure to the island was an advantage for it afforded them a chance to be introduced to the biodiversity in the island.
Mr. Jabir Mohammed-Saleh, head of the NUEYS branch in Massawa sub-zone, indicated that the initiative would continue in an integrated manner.
Reports indicated that extensive briefing was given by marine science experts to the participants of the campaign keen to get informed of the historical background of the island vis-à-vis the situation of the existing birds, vegetation and important marine animal species.
