The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in  Habero sub-zone called on farmers to strengthen crop follow-up concerning instances of inopportune rainfall and insect swarm.

Habero, 12 October 2012 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in  Habero sub-zone called on farmers to strengthen crop follow-up concerning instances of inopportune rainfall and insect swarm.

Mr. Girmatsion Kesete, head of the branch office, said that more than 8,000 hectares have been cultivated with sorghum, millet and groundnut, and that the crops have approached the stage of harvest thanks to the commendable rainfall in the locality and the integrated endeavors exerted in the process. He further indicated that the inhabitants are in a position to ensure animal feed in line with the establishment of 5 enclosures, which have had positive impact on biodiversity in the locality.

Reports indicate that the practice of irrigation farming in Habero sub-zone is on the rise with the growth of community-based style of living.

Mr. Girmatsion also explained that the inhabitants have made impressive accomplishment in soil and water conservation through popular undertaking on twice a week basis, and that the venture would continue.
