Eritrean Chemical Society holds 7th Congress

The Eritrean Chemical Society yesterday held its 7th Congress. Dr. Berhane Girmai, Chairman of the Society, explained that it was established pursuing the objectives of reinforcing educational and research venture, as well as bringing together chemistry professionals and thus strengthening relations between them and other professionals, besides raising popular awareness as regards chemicals.

Asmara, 13 October 2012 – The Eritrean Chemical Society yesterday held its 7th Congress.

Dr. Berhane Girmai, Chairman of the Society, explained that it was established pursuing the objectives of reinforcing educational and research venture, as well as bringing together chemistry professionals and thus strengthening relations between them and other professionals, besides raising popular awareness as regards chemicals.

Pointing out that the Government is making substantial investment with a view to building the nation’s human capital, Mr. Petros Hailemariam, director general of the department of research and human resource development in the Ministry of Education, called on the Association to step up endeavors towards the realization of the cherished goal. Dr. Araya Habtai, curriculum development expert in the Ministry, on his part conducted a seminar focusing on the new curriculum.

Moreover, research papers were presented pertaining to the ways and means of exploiting and controlling traditional treatment practice in the country vis-à-vis the indigenous knowledge of herbal medicines and other research outcomes. The participants of the congress elected a managing committee constituting 8 members, reports indicated.

The Eritrean Chemical Society was established in 1993.
