It was stated at the seminar that the role of blood donor volunteers is vital in safeguarding the citizenry’s wellbeing. More than 400 civil servants, students and community health representatives participated in the seminar.
Pointing out that the breadth of Gash-Barka region entails higher demand of blood reserve, Mr. Mekonen Gebregiorgis from the National Blood Transfusion Center noted the need for the presence of a reliable transfusion center vis-à-vis proportional number of volunteers. He further indicated that a transfusion center would be opened in Barentu, and called on the participants to extend a helping hand in endeavors to enhance community awareness in this regard.
Among the participants, Ms. Nejat Ibrahim, Ms. Akberet Tekeste and Ms. Birikti Gide voiced readiness to collaborate with the establishment and reinforcement of the transfusion center expected to play significant role in further reducing down child and mother mortality rate.
