Hamelmalo, 2 November 2012 – Reports indicated that Hamelmalo College of Agriculture is making significant impact on agricultural activities in the area. The inhabitants voiced conviction that they are in a position to boost production on the basis of becoming leading beneficiaries of research outcome in the College.
Among the inhabitants, Mr. Yasin Ali-Nur said that it is playing vital role in raising farmers’ awareness as regards select crops, farmland management and animal husbandry, and that agricultural output is consequently on the rise.
Mr. Idris Mohammed-Ali Amr, Administrator of Hamelmalo Administrative area, pointed out that the College has been distributing select seeds that have comparative advantages regarding resistance to diseases and productivity, besides the commendable agricultural extension service it is rendering.
Mr. Ismail Ahmed Bekit, head of the Association of Fruits and Vegetable Farmers in Hamelmalo sub-zone, explained that there exists strong relation between the College and Association members, and that they have attained higher harvest both in quality and quantity through improved mode of farming.
Dr. Woldeamlak Araia, Assistant dean of research and development in the College, elucidated that such accomplishment could be registered in line with the availability of sufficient number of experts. He also stated that a select rice seed would be distributed in suitable areas.
The Dean of Hamelmalo College of Agriculture, Mr. Semere Amlesom, disclosed that the college has been putting up endeavors in research venture with a view to ensuring efficiency in plant production, farmland management and animal husbandry, besides nurturing competent agriculture experts.
