Southern region reinforcing endeavors regarding apiculture and fruits production

The Administration of the Southern region indicated that it is reinforcing endeavors in apiculture and production of highland fruits. Accordingly, around 10,000 seedlings of peach, apple and olive are due to be planted in the sub-zones of Senafe, Adi-Keih, Segeneiti and Dekemhare, while integrated efforts would be made to promote modern mode of apiculture farming in the region.

Pointing out that boosting agricultural output on the basis of modern farming is in line with the national strategy, Mr. Mustafa Nur-husein, Administrator of the Southern region, disclosed that fruits and honey production have been focused with priority.

The sub-zonal Administrators stated that the groundwork for the scheme has already been laid, and that experimental farming activities within the region are making vital impact nation-wide. They also put forth views on various related issues.

Mr. Musie Embaye and Mr. Yosef Woldai, Apiculture experts, said that the region is endowed with sufficient resources for apicultural farming, and called on farmers to exploit them through modern approach. They also expressed readiness to collaborate with farmers.
