Nacfa residents engage in soil and water conservation undertaking

The residents of Nacfa town are engaged in popular undertaking with a view to recovering river-eroded areas and enriching water resources. Nacfa, 17 November 2012 – The residents of Nacfa town are engaged in popular undertaking with a view to recovering river-eroded areas and enriching water resources.

Mr. Jabera Mohammed-Ali, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Nacfa sub-zone, disclosed that the venture would further focus on plantation of 7,000 highland fruit seedlings such as apple and peach, and lauded the active role of women in the process.

Among the participants, Mr. Ibrahim Omar, Ms. Saedia Idris and Mr. Mohammed Idris explained that the community’s awareness as regards soil and water conservation is on the rise, and that a spirit of enthusiasm has been witnessed in the undertaking.

Reports indicate that there exists a wood enclosure of more than 2,000 hectares range, and that around 90,000 tree seedlings planted over the past 6 months have flourished thanks to the inhabitants who are taking good care of them.
