Inhabitants of Nacfa sub-zone constructing ponds through popular campaign

The inhabitants of Nacfa sub-zone are engaged in popular undertaking with a view to promoting water conservation through constructing ponds. Accordingly, the inhabitants of Mariet, Rora-Bagla, Endilal, Laba, Agrae-Laelai and Agrae-Tahtai Administrative areas are participating in the process through labor and money. Nacfa, 27 November 2012 – The inhabitants of Nacfa sub-zone are engaged in popular undertaking with a view to promoting water conservation through constructing ponds. Accordingly, the inhabitants of Mariet, Rora-Bagla, Endilal, Laba, Agrae-Laelai and Agrae-Tahtai Administrative areas are participating in the process through labor and money.

Mr. Jabera Mohammed-Ali, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, indicated that the inhabitants have constructed around 48 ponds, 28 of which have been built with stones and cement. Taking into account the growing water reserve, reservoirs have already been built, and the local Administration would equally promote afforestation activities.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Ahmed Adem Saleh and Ms. Saedia Mohammed-Ali asserted that such community-based venture is supplemental to national endeavors of ensuring food security, and voiced satisfaction with taking part in the undertaking, the impact of which has also become significant in securing animal feed.

Mr. Adem Mohammed Musa, representative of the Agriculture Ministry in Rora-Bagla Administrative area, lauded the active participation of the inhabitants in the process, and disclosed that there exist diverse wild trees covering 2,000 hectares in the locality.

Moreover, there exists a 1,400 hectare-wide seasonal enclosure, besides a total of 6,000 hectares of permanent enclosure.
