Mendefera, 2 December 2012- Training provided for poultry farmers in Mendefera sub-zone aimed at upgrading their knowledge on poultry farming and reinforcing participation in the efforts to ensure food security.
Veterinarian Mr. Asmelash Asgedom explained that poultry farming is a sector that needs more attention and concentration and that lack of sanitation and timely vaccination would have negative effect on production.
He further indicated that farmers should immediately inform concerned institution upon observing the prevalence of disease for medical treatment and not buying medicines from the market without consulting professionals on the field.
Dr. Okbazgi Kifle, head of livestock resources in the sub-zone, on his part said that though poultry farming in the sub-zone is at initial stage the interest and dedication on the part of the farmers is commendable. He also indicated that if poultry farming is properly implemented beyond ensuring food security could generate economic benefit.
He further reiterated that as part of the successful activities conducted to ensure bounty milk production effort is being exerted for similar honey and eggs production and that farmers should work following advice from professionals in the field.
