Areza, 12 December 2012 – Irrigation and dairy farmers in Areza sub-zone said that they are in a position to attain better output in line with the integrated efforts they have been exerting, thus ensuring considerable supply to the local market.
Andemeskel Tiqabo, an experienced dairy and irrigation farmer who has been harvesting green feed from 4 hectares, indicated that he had a single cow when he began getting engaged in the business, while he presently owns 30 cattle and other assets such as residential house, a shop and a track. He further pointed out that he is working hard to extend the scope of his irrigated farm on the basis of digging two water wells and purchasing more water pumps.
Mr. Gebrekidan Kaleab on his part explained that he is working in partnership with 3 colleagues establishing a business involving 12 hectares of irrigated farm and 3 breeds of dairy cattle. Accordingly, the business is making significant input to the local market, including milk.
