Anseba region: Remarkable accomplishment being registered in combating communicable diseases through environmental hygiene
The Health Ministry’s branch in Anseba region indicated that remarkable accomplishment has been registered in combating communicable diseases through environmental hygiene.
Keren, 19 December 2012 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Anseba region indicated that remarkable accomplishment has been registered in combating communicable diseases through environmental hygiene. It made the statement at meetings conducted with the inhabitants of Habrengaqa village and community hygiene representatives in Adi-Tekelezan sub-zone.
Mr. Berhane Gebrekidan, head of the branch office, disclosed that instances of communicable diseases have visibly declined thanks to the popular initiatives taken pertaining to environmental hygiene, the trend of which practice is on the rise in rural areas. Mr. Zecarias Ogbasilasie, head of administration and finance in the branch office, pointed out that community participation in the endeavors exerted towards expanding use of latrines was crucial.
Out of the addressed 115 villages in the region, 74 have fully become beneficiaries of latrines, while 30 are expected to attain the set goal soon. A total of 17,000 new soak-pit toilets have also been built in different localities, according to reports.
Mr. Ande Adhanom, Administrator of Adi-Tekelezan sub-zone, said that community awareness pertaining to use of latrines is significantly growing.
Among the inhabitants of Habrengaqa, Ms. Bekita Seid voiced conviction that the role of community sensitization activities was vital in promoting popular initiatives.
