Soil and water conservation activities undertaken along eastern escarpments of Adi-Keih sub-zone

The inhabitants of Adi-Keih sub-zone have been engaged in popular soil and water conservation activities, as well as renovation of roads along the eastern escarpments, extending from Egila-Demhina to Foro area. Adi-Keih, 12 January 2013 – The inhabitants of Adi-Keih sub-zone have been engaged in popular soil and water conservation activities, as well as renovation of roads along the eastern escarpments, extending from Egila-Demhina to Foro area.

Mr. Idris Hassan, coordinator of the sub-zone’s projects, pointed out that the 20-day community-based venture involved renovation of a 30 km-long dirt road and construction of 200 meters-long water catchment walls, as well as 18,000 meters-long terraces.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Mohammed Seid, Ms. Zahra Mohammed, Ms. Isha Saleh and Mr. Saleh Ahmedin explained that previous community undertakings have made remarkable impact in the locality, and asserted that they would sustain such initiative.

Mr. Osman Arafa, Administrator of Adi-Keih sub-zone, indicated that the role of the community is vital in ensuring environmental stability and soil and water conservation along the escarpment. He also said that visible outcome has been registered to this end through the community venture.
