President holds talks with Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East

President Isaias Afwerki today received and held talks at the State House with Mr. Mikhail L. Bogdanov, Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister.

Asmara, 28 January 2013 – President Isaias Afwerki today received and held talks at the State House with Mr. Mikhail L. Bogdanov, Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister.

The President and Mr. Bogdanov discussed ways and means of reinforcing bilateral relations with more emphasis on trade and investment. They also discussed the priorities which should be taken into account to this end.

The two sides decided that representatives from both countries need to further discuss the addressed issues so as to ensure concrete outcome. Furthermore, they conducted discussion as regards regional and international issues that concern both countries.

President Isaias expressed Eritrea’s support for Russian initiative towards ensuring peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

Following the meeting, Mr. Bogdanov told Erina that there exists readiness on both sides to foster the 20 year-old diplomatic relations between the two countries towards higher collaboration. The Russian Special Representative indicated that he has obtained extensive understanding regarding the objective situation in the Horn region and its future prospects on the basis of the discussion with President Isaias.
