Fruits and vegetables farmers in Dige sub-zone to work as an Association

Fruits and vegetables farmers in Dige sub-zone have begun working as an Association.

Dige, 31 January 2013 – Fruits and vegetables farmers in Dige sub-zone have begun working as an Association. The farmers expressed their interest at the first meeting, during which they pointed out that they have acquired valuable experience through collaboration with the Association of Fruits and Vegetables Farmers in Agordat sub-zone.

They further indicated that the number of fruits and vegetables farmers is on the rise in the locality which is endowed with the necessary resources for horticulture, and said that they would resort to judicious utilization of such resources.

Mr. Saleh Haji, Administrator of Dige sub-zone, called on the farmers to strive to promote the organizational capacity of the cherished Association, and thus meet local demand through raising their output. Likewise, the Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Mr. Mohammed Hamd, called on them to utilize the experience they have acquired as a stepping stone to better outcome, and expand their farming potential to dairy production on the basis of ensuring supply of green feed.

Moreover, the farmers put forth views pertaining to several issues and elected a managing committee.
