Inhabitants of Southern Red Sea region express satisfaction with medical service

The inhabitants of the Southern Red Sea region have expressed satisfaction with health services, especially ophthalmic outreach service targeting remote areas.

Assab, 2 February 2013 – The inhabitants of the Southern Red Sea region have expressed satisfaction with health services, especially ophthalmic outreach service targeting remote areas.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Eiedu Hafil, a father of four visually impaired girls, indicated that 3 of them have gained sight following successful surgical treatment, and said that such free medical service attests to the government’s commitment to ensure social justice. Likewise, Kedija Eiedu, his daughter, voiced delight with her deliverance from blindness vis-à-vis her sisters.

Mr. Mekonen Gebrekidan, Ophthalmology expert, explained that such service continued being rendered at regional level since 2004 in the port city of Assab, and that the current one would continue in Edi and Tio semi-urban centers with a view to ensuring better outreach. Accordingly, it is expected that there would be 170 more beneficiaries of the free surgical treatment service.

Moreover, the inhabitants of the region have reportedly gained better access to eyeglasses.
