Afabet, 6 February 2013 – The Administration of Afabet sub-zone indicated that remarkable accomplishment has been registered as regards soil and water conservation.
Pointing out that the venture was aimed at raising agricultural harvest, Mr. Abdu Mohammed Telke, Administrator of the locality, explained that water catchment walls constructed along Mogae River and Wadilabka area, as well as terraces and water diversion canals built within wood enclosures are among the major achievements of the undertaking involving community participation. “Instances of erosion along Mogae River used to be a serious concern to farmers, while effective fruits and vegetables farming activities are presently taking place there on more than 5,500 hectares,” stated the sub-zonal Administrator.
Moreover, popular soil and water conservation activities have given rise to wildlife stability in the enclosures in Felket and Qilamet, and the concerned Area administrations have indicated that they would strive to ensure the sustainability of such impact.
