Asmara, 25 February 2013 – The National Blood Bank indicated that endeavors are being exerted to transform Blood Donors Club into an Association. It made the statement at its third regular meeting conducted yesterday.
Mr. Haile Kifleyesus, chairman of the Club, explained that further efforts need to be made to ensure consistent and safe blood supply nationwide, the cherished strategy of which is promoting voluntary blood donation.
Dr. Yifdeamlak Tesfamariam, director of the National Blood Bank, pointed out that voluntary donors constitute the main source of safe blood, and noted that moral obligation is the sole urge for being a volunteer.
Moreover, Dr. Goitom Mebrahtu from the Administration of the Ministry of Health lauded the role of the Club in saving the lives of nationals, and expressed the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with it.
The participants of the meeting put forth views as regards several issues.
