Inhabitants of Goluj sub-zone call on Agriculture Ministry to reinforce mechanisms of livestock disease control

The inhabitants of Goluj sub-zone have called on the Ministry of Agriculture to reinforce mechanisms of livestock disease control in line with the increasing trend of nomadic mobility to the locality.

Goluj, 26 February 2013 – The inhabitants of Goluj sub-zone have called on the Ministry of Agriculture to reinforce mechanisms of livestock disease control in line with the increasing trend of nomadic mobility to the locality. They further indicated that such trend could be noted following the construction of various micro-dams, which visibly gave rise to more availability of greenery.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Hassen Mahmoud and Mr. Aregai Woldemariam explained that no instance of livestock infection has been noted in the locality so far thanks to the consistent vaccination campaigns conducted to this end. Moreover, they said that the opening of more vaccination stations and further veterinary efforts is vital vis-à-vis the increasing flow of nomadic migration.

Mr. Tesfahiwet Gilai from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch office in the sub-zone pointed out that the number of livestock in the locality has recently increased significantly. He also disclosed that the branch office is making preparations to open additional vaccination stations with a view to enhancing capacity of livestock disease control.
