Reports indicated that farmers in Emberemi Administrative area, Northern Red Sea region, are undertaking effective soil and water conservation ventures with a view to renovating agricultural infrastructures damaged by heavy rainfall, besides reinforcing irrigation potential. Massawa, 2 March 2013 – Reports indicated that farmers in Emberemi Administrative area, Northern Red Sea region, are undertaking effective soil and water conservation ventures with a view to renovating agricultural infrastructures damaged by heavy rainfall, besides reinforcing irrigation potential. They further commended the Administration of Massawa city for extending machinery support in the process.
Among the farmers, Mr. Osman Ismail, Mr. Idris Adem, Ms. Fatina Hamd and Ms. Awelkier Seadela explained that the locality is endowed with various agricultural resources, and asserted that women are expected to play vital role in raising agricultural output in the area.
Mr. Idris Maetuq from the local Administration disclosed that significant accomplishments have been made regarding renovation of damaged water diversion canals and prevention of desertification through popular undertakings in which the participation of women was remarkable.
There exist around 2,000 hectares of farmland in Emberemi Administrative area cultivated on the basis of irrigation and rainfall, according to reports.
