Inhabitants of Filfile and Gelet Administrative areas engage in soil and water conservation undertaking
The inhabitants of Filfile and Gelet Administrative areas, Habero sub-zone, said that they are engaged in soil and water conservation undertaking as of mid-January this year.
Habero, 4 March 2013 – The inhabitants of Filfile and Gelet Administrative areas, Habero sub-zone, said that they are engaged in soil and water conservation undertaking as of mid-January this year.
Accordingly, the community venture is taking place three times a week, and more than 600 cubic meters of water catchment walls, as well as 500 meters of terraces have been constructed so far.
Among the inhabitants, Ms. Amna Mohammed-Ali, Ms. Khadija Mohammed, Mr. Mohammed Ali and Mr. Mohammed Adem indicated that active community participation is being witnessed in the process, and expressed conviction that the venture would have a significant impact as regards restoring the erosion-susceptible landscape of the area.
Mr. Tesfalidet Gebrebirhan from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone pointed out that the undertaking would have a remarkable outcome regarding enrichment of water resources through prevention of sedimentary deposits in the micro-dams and ponds in the locality.
Mr. Jimi’e Hamd, Acting administrator of Habero sub-zone, disclosed that the inhabitants have acquired ample knowledge pertaining to soil and water conservation, and that the venture has positively affected farming activities.
