Central region: Preparations underway to mark International Women’s Day

The NUEW branch in the Central region indicated that preparations are being made to mark International Women’s Day on March 8.

Asmara, 6 March 2013 – The NUEW branch in the Central region indicated that preparations are being made to mark International Women’s Day on March 8.

In this connection, a parade accompanied by the National Marching Band was conducted by civil servants and students on March 4 with a view to depicting the level of participation of Eritrean women in all domains. Moreover, the parade which concluded at Bahti-Meskerem Square witnessed display of a number of thematic banners and community cultural shows.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tekh’a Tesfamichael, head of the branch office, noted that Eritrean women continued playing major role in the nation-building process as in the armed struggle for independence. She further pointed out that equity in gender role is a vital prerequisite for national development and the nurturing of a civilized society.

Meanwhile, a bazaar by students has been opened at the Eritro-German Community Center Hall in connection with the momentous Day, besides the conducting of a seminar on health issues.

Numerous programs would be staged until next Friday in connection with the event, according to reports.
