Fruits and vegetables farmers in Dirfo area, Central region, said that they are witnessing growing harvest, and that they anticipate expanding the scope of their farms.

Asmara, 13 March 2013 – Fruits and vegetables farmers in Dirfo area, Central region, said that they are witnessing growing harvest, and that they anticipate expanding the scope of their farms.

One of the farmers, Mr. Kahsai Wolde, disclosed that they rely on water springs to feed their farms, and that he is also engaged in apicultural and livestock farming. Likewise, pointing out that the area’s landscape entails further labor demand in farming, Mr. Abdu Mohammed Idris explained that they have nevertheless become beneficiaries of reliable transportation service, including in case of their produce.

Mr. Omar Ibrahim Jebib, Administrator of Dirfo Administrative area, indicated that community awareness regarding irrigation farming used to be limited in the locality. However, there exist around 270 farmers who are currently engaged in such mode of farming in group and individual basis, he added.

The local Administrator further called on the farmers to work as an Association for better output.
