Mr. Mengisteab Tewoldebrhan, General Manager of Fred Hollows Intra-Ocular Lens Laboratory, indicated that it is making significant contribution in efforts to control eye blindness resulting from Cataract.
Asmara, 20 March 2013- Mr. Mengisteab Tewoldebrhan, General Manager of Fred Hollows Intra-Ocular Lens Laboratory, indicated that it is making significant contribution in efforts to control eye blindness resulting from Cataract.
He explained that the Laboratory has produced 2 million Intra-Ocular Lenses for the international market, and as a result 1.8 million people with cataract have restored their sight.
He further indicated that the IOL Laboratory is equipped with modern machinery and producing four types of eye glasses with demand in markets from Asia, Europe, Africa and others.
Mr. Megisteab also explained that the IOL Laboratory besides Intra-Ocular Lenses, is experimenting to produce eye ointments.
Fred Hollows IOL Laboratory was established in 1995 by a friend of Eritrea, Australian Doctor Fred Hollows.
