Assistance provided for families of martyrs and the needy in Northern Red Sea region

The Ministry of Agriculture has provided 16, 400 chickens for families of martyrs and needy individuals from the sub-zones of Ginda, Nakfa, Afabet, She’ib, Foro and Gelalo, Northern Red Sea region, with a view to motivating them pursue poultry farms. Massawa, 22 March 2013- The Ministry of Agriculture has provided 16, 400 chickens for families of martyrs and needy individuals from the sub-zones of Ginda, Nakfa, Afabet, She’ib, Foro and Gelalo, Northern Red Sea region, with a view to motivating them pursue poultry farms.

Mr. Kidane Yihdego, the Agriculture Ministry’s branch office in Ginda sub-zone, said that if properly handled the poultry farmers could play significant role in facilitating supply of eggs to the nearby markets and contribute to efforts towards ensuring food security.

He also indicated that in case of diseases the Ministry has prepared medicines and called on the farmers to immediately provide information for any eventuality.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the efforts being exerted by the Government to assist families of martyrs and the needy, and that they would apply safety measurements to ensure the wellbeing and productivity of the chickens.

Ms. Fatna Ahmed and Mr. Osman Jabir, veterinarians and members of the Ministry of Agriculture branch in Nakfa sub-zone, explained that the sub-zone is suitable for poultry farming. Moreover, they expressed confidence that the chickens would be able to produce eggs in a very short span of time.
