Asmara, 31 March 2013- Beekeepers in the Central regions held 4th conference on 28 March aimed at encouraging members to re-organize their association and resume activities.
Mr. Michael Tekle, General Secretary of the Beekeepers association, indicated that the lack of support on the part of stakeholders, lack of dedication of members and unscientific use of pesticides have been the main causes for the weakness of the association and called on members to revive the association so as to ensure the supply of honey to the market.
Mr. Ressom Alem, coordinator of the association in the Central region, on his part pointed out that the association has been provided in 2010 with 264 thousand Nakfa and 29 bee hives in a bid to encourage the association to play due role in ensuring food security. He further said that despite the assistance provided the association didn’t live up to expectations and called on members to work towards reviving the association and play due role.
The participants, appreciating for organizing the conference passed different recommendations including that members resume monthly membership payment and conduct regular meetings of members aimed at evaluating activities of the association.
