Eye operation being conducted in Ti’o and Idi community hospitals

In line with the relentless effort that the branch of the Ministry of Health in the Southern Red Sea has been exerting to expand health services in the region, a successful eye operation was conducted in Tio and Idi community hospitals that used to be confined in Assab city.

Assab, 1 April 2013- In line with the relentless effort that the branch of the Ministry of Health in the Southern Red Sea has been exerting to expand health services in the region, a successful eye operation was conducted in Ti’o and Idi community hospitals that used to be confined in Assab city.

Among beneficiaries, Ms. Fatuma Yasin and Mr. Saleh Mohammed Ibrahim said that they were compelled to travel to Massawa for eye treatment, and that at present thanks to the efforts on the part of the regional Administration and the Ministry of Health they have managed to get treatment in Ti’o and Idi community hospitals respectively.

Mr. Alem Zekarias, Head of eye blindness control in the Ministry, noted that the Government has been dispatching medical service personnel to remote areas of the country in a bid to control eye blindness and to provide treatment. He further pointed out that the recent eye operation conducted at the two community hospitals is part of such efforts.

Likewise, Mr. Mekonnen Gebrekidan, eye treatment professional in the region, explained that research has been conducted on providing medical treatment to nationals living in remote areas, and in the face of lack of transportation it was made possible to conduct eye operation in Tio and Idi community hospitals.
