Reports indicated that the Administration of Gash Barka region is exerting endeavors to ensure equitable youth participation and benefit in the national development process through enhancing youth organizational capacity and raising their awareness. The statement was made at separate meetings conducted in Barentu and Agordat cities.

Barentu, 05 April 2013 – Reports indicated that the Administration of Gash Barka region is exerting endeavors to ensure equitable youth participation and benefit in the national development process through enhancing youth organizational capacity and raising their awareness. Speaking at the 2nd regional youth meeting conducted in Barentu, Markos Girmatsion from the NUEYS branch in the region noted the significance of higher awareness to this end, and pointed out that the new organizational structure gives room for youths to meet their niches.

In the same vein, Mr. Absadi Merhawi, head of youth workers in the region, said that additional efforts would be made to overcome the existing challenges.

Mr. Franko Kubaba, Administrator of Barntu sub-zone, asserted that the role of effective organizational framework is a major prerequisite in promoting youth participation in national development programs and ensuring equitability in this regard. Moreover, he expressed the Administration’s readiness to collaborate in the Union’s undertakings targeting enhancement of youth organization.

The participants of the meeting elected a 9-member managing committee.

Meanwhile, youths in Agordat sub-zone explained that development activities in the locality are a springboard to higher youth participation in various domains, and lauded government endeavors to this end.

Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed, head of the NUEYS branch in the sub-zone, indicated that various training courses were organized with a view to raising youth capacity, and that the members would sustain their commitment regarding community undertakings and initiatives to support families of martyrs.
