Barentu residents and inhabitants of Hirkok Administrative area engage in environmental hygiene and soil and water conservation
The residents of Barentu city and inhabitants of Hirkok Administrative area, Mensura sub-zone, are engaged in environmental hygiene and soil and water conservation campaigns respectively. Barentu, 8 April 2013 – The residents of Barentu city and inhabitants of Hirkok Administrative area, Mensura sub-zone, are engaged in environmental hygiene and soil and water conservation campaigns respectively.
The residents of Barentu pointed out that the environmental hygiene venture which is being conducted in collaboration with the municipal Administration is more focused on proper disposal of plastic materials, and that they would sustain the initiative. Among the residents, Mr. Tsegai Anenia and Ms. Semira Omar explained that community awareness regarding environmental health has become a drive for such popular initiative.
Moreover, Mr. Gebreyesus Gebregiorgis, head of environmental hygiene in Barentu, and Mr. Abubeker Mohammed, Administrator of 01-Administrative area in the city, indicated that the residents have been conducting several campaigns to this end, and called on them to popularize proper disposal of trash.
Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Hirkok Administrative area said that the practice of soil and water conservation at community level has made remarkable impact on the agricultural and other domains. Among the inhabitants, Ms. Fatina Mohammed and Mr. Abubeker Adem said the current undertaking targets farming areas and is being directed by agriculture experts, and expressed conviction that it would significantly improve their harvest.
Mr. Mohammed Ahmed, Administrator of Hirkok Administrative area, disclosed that active popular participation is being witnessed in the undertaking, which also involves renovation of dirt roads and supporting families of martyrs.
