Youths residing in Assab make tour of historical sites in the region

A number of youths residing in the port city of Assab, Southern Red Sea region, have made tour of historical sites within the region that include the battlefield trenches in Dihtum and Rahaita areas.

Assab, 10 April 2013 – A number of youths residing in the port city of Assab, Southern Red Sea region, have made tour of historical sites within the region that include the battlefield trenches in Dihtum and Rahaita areas.

Among the youths, Asia Ahmed Isa and Welia Ahmed said that the majority of the sites are places where the heroic feats of fellow nationals took place during the armed struggle to safeguard the sovereignty of the nation, and reiterated their pledge to enhance participation in State affairs. They further expressed satisfaction with the tour which also involved exposure to Rahaita civilization and the cultural youth organization of Afar ethic group.

Mr. Meles Woldegiorgis, head of the NUEYS branch in Assab sub-zone, and Mr. Ibrahim Derder from the PFDJ branch in the region explained that the tour was organized supplementing the endeavor to raise youth awareness regarding national history.

The youths on their part lauded the Union and PFDJ regional branch for organizing such a significant excursion, and called on them to sustain such initiative.
