Hagaz, 12 April 2013 – The inhabitants of Hagaz sub-zone said that they would sustain community-based soil and water conservation venture which has been underway since the beginning of this year. They further indicated active popular participation is being witnessed in the undertaking which is due to make remarkable impact as regards farmland preparation and restoring erosion-hit areas.
Among the participants, Ms. Saedia Adem and Ms. Awetash Kinfe expressed conviction that popular initiative is a sound means of backing national endeavors towards ensuring food security, and that the current process would have a positive effect to this end.
Mr. Kidane Kibrom, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the locality, disclosed that the community venture, in which agriculture experts are demonstrating active role, involves construction of terraces, water catchment walls and diversion canals. Furthermore, he lauded the major participation of women in the activity.
The participants of the undertaking comprise inhabitants of Ad-Omar, Shebeq, Ad-Arei, Awenjeli, Ad-Fakai, Hashishai, Golia, Shengien-Fana, Enchinaq, Gilass, Ashera, Badob and Idamir Administrative areas, according to reports.
