Farmers in Sel’a sub-zone have called on the regional Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture to support their new farming venture along Zara River which is expected to cover around 150 hectares of the plain within Kefertai area. Sel’a, 13 April 2013 – Farmers in Sel’a sub-zone have called on the regional Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture to support their new farming venture along Zara River which is expected to cover around 150 hectares of the plain within Kefertai area. They further indicated that deployment of water pumps and technical advice is a major prerequisite in expanding the activity which has begun with small community-based potential.
Sheikh Al-Amin Mohammed-Ali and Tahir Mohammed Shum, both exemplary farmers, as well as Mr. Mohammed Hassan Humed, Administrator of Rikeb Administrative area, called for integrated efforts as regards nurturing the practice of plant production in the locality that is more characterized by herding.
Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed-Ali, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, noted the timeliness of the farmers’ inquiry, and disclosed that the inhabitants of Rikeb Administrative area have constructed terraces at a total area of 200 hectares and renovated the diversion canal in Kefertai Area.
Moreover, the branch office pointed out that water well in the area has been renovated, and that 2 water pumps would be extended to the farmers, besides the groundwork being laid for them to work as an association.
