Barentu, 18 April 2013 – Reports indicated that the inhabitants of Aligidir Administrative area, Tesenei sub-zone, and various Administrative areas in Dige sub-zone are engaged in well-organized popular undertakings targeting soil and water conservation.
Among the participants of the undertaking in Aligidir, Mr. Nasser Ali-Shum, Mr. Tedros Tiquabo, Mr. Naizgi Bahta and Mr. Mohammed Adem explained that the community-based venture, which involves preparation of farmland, is motivated by its dual input to community benefit and the national endeavor of ensuring food security. Mr. Ferej Mahmoud, Administrator of Aligidir Administrative area, said that the popular initiative would continue.
In the same vein, Humed Saleh and Mohammed Sedig, inhabitants of Dige sub-zone, pointed out that active community participation is being witnessed in the popular venture which involves renovation of diversion canals. Mr. Saleh Abdalla, Administrator of Ad-Ibrihim Administrative area, and Mr. Idris Ata from the same Area administration said that the community has acquired ample experience regarding soil and water conservation, and called on agriculture experts in the locality to enhance their advisory role.
