Impressive accomplishment registered regarding popularization of environmental hygiene in Senafe sub-zone: Report

The inhabitants of Zigfet, Bihat, Mezba, Forto and Mirara Administrative areas, Senafe sub-zone, said that an impressive accomplishment has been registered regarding popularization of environmental hygiene and called on fellow inhabitants to facilitate introduction of soak-pit latrines.

Senafe, 18 April 2013 – The inhabitants of Zigfet, Bihat, Mezba, Forto and Mirara Administrative areas, Senafe sub-zone, said that an impressive accomplishment has been registered regarding popularization of environmental hygiene and called on fellow inhabitants to facilitate introduction of soak-pit latrines.

Mr. Mohammed Mohammed-Saleh, head of environmental hygiene in the Health Ministry’s branch in the Southern region, disclosed that 10 Administrative areas have already become beneficiaries of latrines, while the rest are in the process of adopting it.

Moreover, Dr. Abraham Yemane, head of the branch office, indicated that stepped-up endeavors are being exerted regarding promoting community health through strengthening community-based initiatives to this end. He also pointed out that further popular awareness is a vital prerequisite in the process.

Likewise, Mr. Berhane Mengesha, Administrator of Senafe sub-zone, expressed appreciation for the growing community awareness as regards environmental hygiene and communicable diseases.

Around 70 villages in the Southern region have fully adhered to the use of soak-pit latrines, 53 of which are within Senafe sub-zone, according to reports.
