The Office of Police Force in Gash-Barka region indicated that reinforcement of joint endeavors seeking higher youth awareness regarding law is a vital prerequisite as regards crime prevention.
Agordat, 25 April 2013 – The Office of Police Force in Gash-Barka region indicated that reinforcement of joint endeavors seeking higher youth awareness regarding law is a vital prerequisite as regards crime prevention. It made the remark at a meeting with secondary school students in Agordat city, during which they were called upon to keep intact cultural values, abide by law and collaborate with the Police.
Maj. Kiflit Elias, head of crime prevention at the regional office, explained that community-police relation is a stepping stone to control of crimes, and that students are expected to play major role to this end. He further pointed out that stepped-up promotional effort has been exerted in this regard, and said that lack of awareness regarding law does not absolve individuals from charge.
Maj. Habte Gebru, head of traffic police in the region, stated that majority of the crimes committed by youths arise from lack of awareness, and called on youths to raise their awareness pertaining to law.
The participants of the meeting expressed appreciation for the ongoing joint venture by the Police and the NUEYS targeting road traffic safety.
