Keren, 26 April 2013 – Water reservoirs are being constructed along Dearit and Tinqulahas rivers through collaboration between the inhabitants of Keren sub-zone and the Administration of Anseba region with a view to securing increased water supply for Keren city.
Higher participation is being demonstrated on the part of the inhabitants and Army members in the process which is witnessing gratifying pace, besides the contribution of machinery and professionals.
Mr. Niamin Abraha, Administrator of Keren’s 03-Administrative area, said that commendable spirit of enthusiasm is being witnessed in the joint undertaking, and expressed conviction that further water reserve would have a remarkable supplemental input as regards meeting the city’s growing water demand. The current venture is a continuation of the previous one which was undertaken targeting the enrichment of water resources along these rivers, he added.
Among the city residents, Mr. Mekonen Woldai and Ms. Mamet Andom stated that the level of underground water has been dropping along the areas of both rivers, in the wake of the consistent consumption by irrigation farms there. “The construction of such reservoirs is encouraging to farmers as well,” he explained.
