Central region: Inhabitants express readiness to back up national development drive

The inhabitants of the Central region have expressed readiness to back up the national development drive at a meeting they conducted with a view to assessing the impact of community-based soil and water conservation ventures.

Asmara, 3 May 2013 – The inhabitants of the Central region have expressed readiness to back up the national development drive at a meeting they conducted with a view to assessing the impact of community-based soil and water conservation ventures.

Agriculture experts presented reports as regards afforestation, as well as soil and water conservation accomplishments, and called for integrated efforts regarding implementation of sound mechanisms targeting enrichment of water resources.

The Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwet, said that the ongoing afforestation venture in the region involves a scope extending to the year 2020, and that significant accomplishment has been already registered. Calling for communities to demonstrate higher diligence regarding preservation of trees, the Administrator  further disclosed that joint efforts are being exerted as regards construction of terraces and introduction of select seeds in connection with the upcoming rainy season.

The participants of the meeting put forth views pertaining to a number of issues.
