Preparations underway for 22nd Independence Day observances

Reports indicated that various preparations are being made in connection with Independence Day observances pertaining to cultural and other artistic shows, general knowledge contests, community festivities, embellishment of streets, as well as sports contests.

 

Asmara, 8 May 2013 – Reports indicated that various preparations are being made in connection with Independence Day observances pertaining to cultural and other artistic shows, general knowledge contests, community festivities, embellishment of streets, as well as sports contests.

Accordingly, the celebrations which would be conducted nationwide beginning  the 17th this month are due to involve dramas and cultural shows depicting the armed struggle for independence vis-à-vis the national development accomplishments.

The contesting artistic presentations in this regard, which include 140 songs and 40 dramas, were rated from May 2 to 7 at Kuwa Hall entailing three stages, according to the National Holidays’ Coordinating Committee.

Moreover, Student Week has opened in connection with the momentous Day, while general contest has been conducted among all ministries.

Meanwhile, all Area administrations in the region are engaged in preparations for community banquets, as 41 institutions and Area administrations are due to stage carnival and artistic shows.

Two African cultural troupes are also expected to arrive in Asmara shortly to stage performances in connection with the event, the Committee disclosed.

Sports, oratory and general knowledge contests are being conducted among youth workers, in addiction to various seminars and cultural shows according to reports.
