Mr. Tekie Keleta, Mayor of Keren, said that endeavors exerted to put in place social service facilities in the city over the past 22 years have borne gratifying outcome.

Keren, 10 May 2013 – Mr. Tekie Keleta, Mayor of Keren, said that endeavors exerted to put in place social service facilities in the city over the past 22 years have borne gratifying outcome.

Mr. Tekie pointed out that the city had limited number of schools before independence, while the number of such institutions stands at 60, showing a sevenfold growth. He further disclosed that commendable health service is being rendered on the basis of 6 health stations and 1 community hospital, and that further efforts are being made to enhance the impact on health.

Reports indicate that water supply in Keren is based on water wells along Anseba River in summer, and that 2 check dams are being constructed around Mariam-Dearit area with a view to guaranteeing consistency of water supply during dry seasons.
