Asmara, 10 May 2013 – The Eritrean Library and Information Society conducted 8th conference in Asmara yesterday under the theme “Reading Can Take You Anywhere.”
Ms. Azeb Tewolde, Chairperson of the Association, presented a report highlighting the challenges encountered as regards introduction of digital library vis-à-vis the organized trainings and seminars, among others. The participants further conducted discussion to this end, and put forth views pertaining to the challenges of nurturing reading culture, distribution of books and the need to reinforce human resource capacity in libraries.
Meanwhile, the National Reading Day was commemorated in Asmara in the presence of Mr. Semere Rusom, Minister of Education, and other government officials. It was stated in connection with the event that the National Library and Information Society was founded with a view to promoting the culture of reading and reinforcing libraries, and that the role of parents is vital to this end.
Moreover, book fair was staged on the occasion, and is due to remain open until the 11th of this month.
