The inhabitants of Dandiere-Genet village are engaged in integrating their financial and labor resources with a view to expanding the scope of the micro-dam in the area, and thereby ensure sustainable water supply. Mendefera, 13 May 2013 – The inhabitants of Dandiere-Genet village are engaged in integrating their financial and labor resources with a view to expanding the scope of the micro-dam in the area, and thereby ensure sustainable water supply.
They further indicated that the micro-dam has not been impounding ample volume of water, giving rise to dropping underground water level, and said that the community venture is expected to make adequate impact as experts from the Ministry of Agriculture are taking part in the process.
Mr. Fasil Kiflai from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mendefera sub-zone disclosed that machinery has been deployed in the community undertaking involving construction of terraces in the peripheries of the micro-dam so as to avoid sedimentary deposit in the future.
Among the inhabitants, Mr. Tadios Bahlibi, Ms. Hasina Mohammed-Yasin and Ms. Nigisti Mekonen expressed conviction that the upgrading of the micro-dam would be a springboard to enrichment of water resources in the area.
Rev. Zecarias Gebretinsae, coordinator of the venture, said that active popular participation is being demonstrated in the process which includes construction of new micro-dam as well.
Dandiere-Genet is located some 5 Km. to the west of Mendefera city.
