Keren, 18 May 2013 – The Administration of Anseba region said that remarkable development accomplishments have been registered in the area over the past 22 years, giving rise to noticeable improvement of the inhabitants’ livelihood.
The Administrator of the region, Mr. Gergis Girmai, told Erina that there existed 34 educational institutions before 22 years, including only one High School, while the figure presently stands at 311 comprising 17 High Schools, besides the establishment of two agricultural colleges in the region.
Accordingly, Anseba region had only 7 institutions in the aforementioned period, and the number of such institutions has now grown to 40, including that of health service which has shown significant amelioration quality-wise following the efforts made to foster technological and human resource capacity.
Reports indicate that the regional Administration has made a total expenditure of approximately 1.5 billion Nakfa for infrastructure and social service facilities. Moreover, electrification process of 31 villages has been finalized, in addition to the payment of around 461 million Nakfa in line with benefit schemes, the regional Administrator elucidated.
Mr. Gergis further disclosed that the number of micro-dams in the region has increased by over 8fold, giving impetus to further agricultural activities, besides enriching water resources. He also pointed out that future undertakings of the Administration would focus on furthering transport and communication services, electrification, and rehabilitation programs pertaining to disabled nationals, as well as ensuring increased impact of water resources in connection with food security programs.
