The 22nd Independence Day observance was marked yesterday in Mendefera at regional level through the staging of various activities and the presence of Ministers, Army commanders, diplomats and city residents.

Mendefera, 23 May 2013 – The 22nd Independence Day observance was marked yesterday in Mendefera at regional level through the staging of various activities and the presence of Ministers, Army commanders, diplomats and city residents.

Speaking on the occasion, the Administrator of the Southern region, Mr. Efrem Gebrekristos, pointed out that the people and the government could lay reliable groundwork for further developmental move on the basis of the policy of self-reliance, and called on farmers to finalize preparations for rain-fed farming.

Mr. Rezene Fisaha, chairman of the region’s holidays coordinating committee, on his part disclosed that the inhabitants have been engaged in prolonged preparation for the celebrations of the momentous Day up to Area administration level. He further lauded the active participation of government bodies, others institutions and individuals in organizing the event.

A parade by the National Marching Band and various cultural performances added color to the celebration, reports indicated.
