Independence Day anniversary marked in Southern Red Sea region

The 22nd Independence Day anniversary was marked in the port city of Assab at regional level.

Massawa, 24 May 2013 – The 22nd Independence Day anniversary was marked in the port city of Assab at regional level.

Mr. Andemichael Solomon, representing the regional Administrator, said that the specialty of the event rests on the fact that it is being celebrated at a time when the nation is witnessing all-round development through joint endeavors on the part of the people and the government.

Likewise, Mr. Salim Ali Salim, chairman of the region’s Holidays Coordinating Committee, indicated that celebration of the momentous Day is an occasion when nationals should reiterate their pledge to enhance their input in the development drive, besides the responsibility of popularizing national values.

Maj. General Gerezgiher Andemariam, Commander of the Eastern Command, inaugurated an exhibition and an educational camp which were staged in connection with Independence Day anniversary that drew viewers’ appreciation.

Marina and terrestrial carnival shows, military parade, cultural shows and calisthenics show by students added color to the event.
